Island Getaway

Once the favored vacation spot of the Isle of Capri, located in the Campania region of Italy, is one of the most visited spots in all of Southern Italy. From its vibrant blue waters and delicious cuisine to its spectacular views, Capri is a one-of-a-kind island for the perfect getaway.

Weather

Though Capri is an island and would seem to have great weather year-round, the best times to go there are from the beginning of April to mid-June and the beginning of September to mid-October. During the spring, temperatures sit between the 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit – the perfect temperature to go hiking, boating, or simply enjoy the view from an outdoor cafe. Autumn is a bit warmer with lows of 60 degrees and highs in the mid-80s.

How Do I Get There?

Getting to Capri can be challenging, but it’s definitely worth it. Because Capri is an island off of the Gulf of Naples, it can only be reached by ferry or motorboat. First you fly into Naples (can fly direct from JFK in 9 hours). Then you take a ferry – ferries depart from both Naples and Sorrento, as well as from Positano, Salerno, and Ischia. The ferry ride takes about 45 minutes to an hour and costs approximately 20 Euro.

Activities

Boat Around the Island

A trip to Capri is incomplete without a boat tour of the beautiful island. You have the option to choose between going on a group tour, or renting a private boat for around 17 Euro. Boat tours are the perfect way to really take in the beauty of the sea that surrounds you as well as give you the opportunity to visit classic sights such as The Grotta Bianca, The Faraglioni, or“Love Rocks”, and The Grotta Verde.

Tip: Legend has it, if you kiss your significant other when passing under the arch of The Faraglioni, you two will be happy forever!!

Climb Mount Solaro

Mount Solaro arguably offers the most beautiful view of Capri. Located about 1,932 feet above sea level, it is the highest point on the island. From here you can enjoy its amazing views, that are so beautiful it almost feels surreal. To get atop Mount Solaro you can either hike or take the chairlift. The hike takes about an hour, the chairlift around 12 minutes. When you reach the summit, you can relax at the La Canzone del Cielo café or simply walk around and take in the magnificent view.

Visit the Blue Grotto

The Blue Grotto, or Grotta Azzurra, is a sea cave that is illuminated a vibrant blue. It is only accessible when tides are low and the sea is calm. You are not guaranteed entrance, but if weather permits it is an unforgettable experience. Entering the Blue Grotto costs 13 Euros per person and tickets can be bought at the Marina Grande port. To enter, visitors are taken on a small rowboat by a rowboat skipper and are told to duck as the boat enters the grotto through the small opening in the cave.
Buy a Pair of Famous Custom-Made Capri Sandals

Capri is known for their custom, handmade leather sandals. No two pairs alike, handmade sandals have a rich history on the Isle of Capri. Capri is home to family shops that have been in the sandal-making business for generations. One of the most well-known shops is Da Costanzo. At Da Costanzo you will find the high quality, unique sandal you are looking for. These sandals are the perfect souvenir to always remember your trip to Capri!

The Food

Le Arcate

Just a short walk from Piazza Vittoria in Anacapri lies one of the best restaurants on the island. A quaint and charming spot with flavorful and classic Italian cuisine, Le Arcate is the perfect spot for lunch or dinner.
I would suggest starting off with an appetizer—the Caprese salad is a great option—it actually originated right here in the Campania region of Italy. Next, I would try the Tagliatelle with Shrimp and Lemon Sauce, and of course, pair this delicious meal with a refreshing glass of wine!

Limoncello

Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur, produced in Southern Italy. Limoncello is a digestivo (after dinner drink) and is very popular along the entire Amalfi coast. If you want to do as the locals do, make sure to have some Limoncello after your meal!

Granita

The best granita in the world is located in Piazza Umberto in Capri. Granita is most simply explained as an Italian slushy. When you enter Piazza Umberto you will see a Granita Lemonade Stand. You must get in line and order one. This granita is a combination of orange and lemon, and might be the most flavorful drink I’ve ever had. The freshness of the fruit coupled with a beautiful view of the Gulf of Naples from the Piazza makes for an unforgettable experience.

The Amalfi Coast

Take advantage of your time in Capri by visiting the Amalfi Coast as well. The Amalfi coast stretches along the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula, which you can reach by a short ferry ride from Capri! You can visit the Cliffside village of Positano or see the famous ruins of Pompeii.
